The original Umarex TDP-45 CO2 BB pistol is a consistently powerful, snag-free cleaned up neat little gun which weighs a mere 0.85 pounds - just over 3/4 of a pound, and, it has the best sighting system - the white front dot and white outlined rear notch.  This gun uses a 12 gram CO2 cartridge.

VELOCITY

In a test by Replica Airguns the TDP-45 registered an average of 412 feet per second in a five shot, shot string velocity test measured by a chronograph.  This is remarkable power considering some CO2 airguns actually deliver much less feet per second than the advertisements proclaim.  I'd rather have this gun that shoots at the advertised velocity than a gun which is advertised to shoot at 480 fps or more and actually delivers 370 fps or less like one brand did.  Velocity is important to airgun shooters.  Some shooters depend on their CO2 guns to ward off attacks by coyotes and stray or vicious dogs.  Other shooters may be into bopping steel and aluminum cans and seeing how many sides of the cans can be shot through.  Other shooters may be concerned over velocity because of trajectory and range capabilities, etc., etc.. I call these pistols which shoot at or above 400 feet per second the 'HARD-HITTER CATEGORY' because they can shoot right through cans made of steel.  That's pretty tough!  One shooter reported a chronographed reading of 434 feet per second with the two-toned version of the TDP, the XCP with fresh CO2 cartridge.

SNAG-FREE COMPACT DESIGN - WHAT GOOD IS A PISTOL THAT HANGS UP ON YOUR CLOTHING?

At between 6 & 1/2 inches and 6 & 5/8 inches long at the top and fairly slim, this pistol is pretty compact compared to various other brands.  It can be withdrawn from your jeans without snagging on the pocket, a very desirable feature.  Guns with the CO2 charging ring hanging below the grip are not really for carrying easily but they may fit a holster just fine.  I think shooters sometimes want a pistol they can just put in a pocket easily like when they take a stroll or are milling around outdoors.

The design of the TDP-45 features a no-nonsense black finish which is nice for those who don't want a flashy gun and don't wish for it to be highly visible.  This makes for a more concealable gun.  It doesn't have an excessive beavertail grip but has enough for good control.  There is plenty of room ahead of the trigger in the trigger guard.  This is good for larger fingers, gloved hands, or those simply not wanting to be crowded in this area. To sum up the configuration of TDP-45 it offers a basic, cleaned up, smooth, snag-free design without the frills which can ruin the streamlining of the gun.

SAFETY

I like the crossbolt type safety which can be pushed through the frame to one side or the other.  This safety in the TDP-45 is good, however, since it can be operated with one finger of the gun hand if right handed.  Simply press and pull it back to fire - or press and push forward for on safety.

SIGHTS

The fixed sights on the TDP-45 are to my liking.  They are like the Bear River BR-45 with a white post front dot and white outlined rear notch for lightning fast easy alignment.  This may be the best sighting system of all.  I'm not looking for a target pistol in this gun but just so it can nail bad dogs or muggers at fairly close range. Note the smooth contours at the rear of the gun for snag-free operation.

The TDP-45 has a stick magazine system which holds 19 rounds according to the manual.  Instant reloading can be accomplished by simply pressing a button on the left side of the frame by the trigger guard, releasing the spent magazine and inserting a fresh, loaded one.  Then you can go again for 19 more rounds!  Why not get a couple of extra magazines so you can maximize your CO2 cartridge potential and have many shots available to you?

WEIGHT

Any gun which is carried conveniently must not weigh very much and that is where the TDP-45 scores top marks.  Weighing in at only 0.85 pounds it is only slightly more than 3/4 of a pound when empty.  This is fairly feather-weight when you consider that all-metal CO2 pistols can weigh up to a couple of pounds or more, something you might get tired of carrying around.  This makes for a real handy gun.

PICATINNY RAIL

TDP-45 also has a picatinny rail below the muzzle which can hold accessories like laser sights, etc.. Note the smooth, slightly rounded contours of the muzzle for snag-free operation.

CO2 COMPARTMENT TRAP DOOR

Like the Umarex XBG the TDP-45 has a unique trap door at the rear of the handgrip with pivots open to allow access to the CO2 cartridge chamber to load and unload 12 gram CO2 cartridges. This is a good feature which eliminates loose grips, etc., problems arising from securing the grip over the CO2 cartridge. The trapdoor snaps securely shut, then give a quick twist to the CO2 charging ring at bottom, but do not overtighten.  Overtightening ruins O-ring seals.

SAFE TO OPERATE

This pistol requires a deliberate complete double action pull to fire, thus it is a very safe weapon to operate which should not be prone to accidental discharge.

Umarex TDP-45 PRICE & PACKAGING

The TDP-45 comes in a secure wrap blister-pack which should prevent anyone tampering with your gun, another good feature.   The price of the Umarex TDP-45 is around $30.oo, not too expensive for a quickly reloadable repeater capable of quickly firing many shots.  Price may vary, but recently at WalMart it was about $30.oo.  Today Amazon.com has it for $30.oo.

TDP-45 CONCLUSION

When you look at all the fine features of the Umarex TDP-45 I think you'll agree that it is a gun built for action and made for shooting, and, it may very well be the best all around inexpensive CO2 BB pistol available.

Remember CO2 guns are not toys and can cause injury or death if mishandled.  Always wear shooting glasses or some kind of safety glasses when shooting any gun.
