I told you there was one dog attack on a person in the U.S. this year
it would be too many, especially if it was a fatal dog attack, but,
there have been literally dozens of fatal dog attacks in the past year
of 2020, far too many. This is supposed to be a civilized society
but the public has to contend with these ongoing fatal dog attacks that
seemingly appear out of nowhere at times and cost human lives.
I had written elsewhere on this site of dog attacks that I had personally experienced and other dog attacks and how to protect and defend against vicious dogs, but I had not seen the page at Wikipedia which lists fatal dog attacks in 2020 and through the years. By fatal, it means the dog(s) literally attacked and killed a person. There are far more fatal dog attacks happening lately than even I realized, so it is necessary to make a big deal out of it and put this page up. If you are looking
for a harmless way to repel bad dogs you might try an airsoft
pistol that shoots 6mm plastic or rubber balls.
If you opt for a cheaper model of airsoft gun it might be a spring powered pistol which has a magazine to feed the plastic BBs which you would have to cock a spring a short stroke to power it. This would propel a plastic or rubber pellet at up to about 300 feet per second, a pretty snappy velocity which would discourage a growling dog if hit in the nose. It would not kill the animal and would probably do less damage than a BB. At most it might sting the animal and discourage it. Pit bulls, however, might be harder to discourage as they seem to go into a complete rage at times and kill people. Just an average attacking mutt, for example, may respond to getting hit by an airsoft pellet by retreating. If the dog ignores a shot or two from the airsoft gun and is determined to attack it might be necessary to use a TRASH PICK, club, knife, or real firearm to stop the attacking animal. This spring powered gun would not be sufficient to stop a pack of attacking dogs. You'd have to have some kind of rapid fire capability for a number of dogs attacking. See my article on the TRASH PICK. The Herstal FNS-9 comes in a protective blister pack with 50 starter BBs and instructions sealed between the cardboard covers. It boasts 300 feet per second velocity. It's nice that the 6mm BB is larger than the .177 caliber standard BB to deliver a noticeable thump. You hear a positive click when the magazine is inserted. Even though you must cock it between each shot the short stroke cocks very fast for repeat shots which the magazine loads automatically for you, so just cock and shoot, cock and shoot again, 12 times. You don't have to hand load each BB, just pour into slot in magazine and close the port, then shake to the side with the spring depressed and let the spring up and it's loaded in the spring magazine ready to fire. This is a realistic replica of the famous FNS-9 so you might not want to remove that orange safety piece on the muzzle which shows it is not a real firearm or it could be mistaken for a real gun. Good sights, the tri-dot white sights, has a thumb powered safety, beaded dots all around grip for sure grip, very light at .7 pound and very attractive. You always consider how heavy or light a pistol is for carrying in jacket, etc.. Has large beavertail for maximum control. The plastic in the gun does not appear to be cheap and no fakey white markings came with my gun which was made in The Philippines. The price on my gun has gone up in the last few days from $14.99 to $17.99, so I expect the demand for this nice pistol will cause the price to increase even more in the future. You can opt for a silver colored slide, etc. for a buck or so more. POWER Even with these light pellets it will penetrate one side of a large yogurt container so with heavier pellets I expect it will go through a pop can. With these light starter pellets it severely dents the can and almost goes through. All in all a little bit of protection to startle vicious dogs for less than twenty bucks. Not bad. These ongoing attacks seem to happen out of nowhere, over and over and again. Every so often you hear or read of pit bull dogs attacking people and injuring and sometimes killing people. The dogs in this case were reportedly unregistered. I have stated on this website that pit bull dogs should not be allowed in any municipality. If owners of pit bulls want to keep them they should be required to do so outside of any city limits. There are too many potential target victims in a city or municipality for pit bulls to exist there. This brings up the subject of installing fences. It becomes clear that these pit bull attacks will happen every so often so rather than ask why I think it is a good idea for people to install sound, tall fences at least six feet high around their yards to prevent such attacks. The fences should be constructed so the gates cannot be opened by passersby from outside the fence, and, this measure should add a bit more privacy to the home. Infoeditor FOLLOW-UP REPORT 3-19-21 The dogs in this incident apparently dug under a fence to access the victims in this case. Remember the article I posted about constructing dog-proof fences. I might add - this can happen most any time where pit bulls can get loose. They can burrow under fences, chain link fences, even wooden fences so my recommendation is to dog-proof your fence. It might be better to shoot aggressive dogs or other animals like coyotes and ask questions later. Whose animal is this and where did it come from? Why did it growl and lunge at me and try to bite me, etc.? The same applies to driving. Be very careful to avoid traffic accidents, collisions because it could send you to a hospital. Infoeditor
